Ten years have passed

Ten years have passed
and the memory of you has softened and dimmed.
I am free to go on with my life,
and not many years remain.
I never thought that at this point of the game
there would be another who would come into my life.
But it happened, and I feel whole once more,
like a love-sick schoolgirl, I fear.
Now that I have a new “friend”,
what do I do to keep the relationship light?
So that we both have our own
space from each other,
yet my heart tugs when we’re apart,
and I blush like a young girl
when we meet.
No demands on each other
that is the key –
just accept what is there –
and be happy.
