Do you remember Grade 9?
starched crinolines
all girls’ class G9G
conjugating the verbs to be
in French or Latin.
The bell rang
and we walked the halls
in one straight line
furtively eyeing
an all boys’ class
passing by the other side.
Those were the days of 3 ring binders
bulging with homework
that we dutifully completed
as we waited for a life
beyond G9G
