Hyannis

Our mother
slips behind the moon
and enters stars, silver
over a Cape Cod sea
on a perfect night
as a poem slips words
over paper, ships
of the mind –
sea salt everywhere
after the storm.
Our mother
clips our swimwear
to the line –
while her breath goes on
for a hundred years.
