Emigrants

we left our souls behind
by leaving

across the ocean
a different sky
you sleep – we toil
while we see the sun
the moon watches over you
our quiet rains you cannot hear
when your snow falls softly
we do not see it
we travel through
each others’ lives
only in thought

we left our souls behind
by leaving

– Giselle Braeuel
